Acid Fountain was created for SUM, the culminating exhibition of a residency at the Sarabande Foundation. Cast from concrete, a primarily lime-based material, the fountain was filled with a weak acetic acid solution that gradually melted and eroded its structure over the course of the exhibition, while also catalysing new chemical bonds and formations.

SUM marked the culmination of a residency for eleven contemporary artists based at Sarabande’s studios in Haggerston. Conceived as an inviting house and lush garden, the exhibition served as an allegory for their shared time and creative coexistence. Through collaboration and cohabitation, they nurtured and expanded both their artistic practices and their relationships with one another. Over four weeks, the artists opened their ‘home’ to the public, inviting audiences to experience the exhibition alongside performances, takeovers, and communal dinners.
